The method involves an internal combustion engine in n-dimensional impact parameter zone. A database (1) is present which contains operating points which involve impact parameter vector and measured value of an operating condition. Impact parameter vectors are partially different whereas operating conditions are part of the operating points of a database by means of fuel function module (5). Fuel function module uses model function (6). Influence parameter vector (11) is selected on the basis of model function. Influence parameter vector is used for obtaining operating conditions of the internal combustion engine or for the influence of technical characteristics of the internal combustion engine.
