Internal treatment of hollow profiles made of thermoplastic and/or thermoelastic materials uses energy absorber inside profile to convert supplied energy and direct it at inner profile wall

Polymer is continuously or semi-continuously extruded and an energy absorber(6) is arranged in the resulting hollow profile beyond the die(4) of the plasticizing unit(3). Energy is supplied to the absorber which converts it and directs it onto the internal wall of the profile. The energy absorber(6) is integrated into a floating plug(5) located inside the extruded profile(2) at a distance from the extruder die(4). The plug and/or energy absorber may be attached to the plasticizing unit(3) by an internal mechanical connection(8) or can be held by an externally applied magnetic or electromagnetic force. Energy may be supplied to the energy absorber either through the wall of the hollow profile or into the latter from the die end. Energy can be either: a) high frequency(HF) electromagnetic radiation(7) at 1kHz-200GHz, preferably 10kHz-150GHz; b) an alternating current(a.c) or a.c voltage at 1kHz-200Ghz, in particular 10kHz-150Ghz or c) a fuel supplied to the energy absorber. Energy forms are converted into either heat or electromagnetic radiation or can be used to create a plasma inside the profile. An independent claim is included for the process equipment including an energy absorber located inside the extruded hollow profile and supplied with energy.
