Method for desulfurization of sewer gas (I) by anaerobic processing of sludge comprises leading (I) in a first closed zone having an aqueous washing liquid (II), where hydrogen sulfide (A) is dissolved in (II), obtaining and reusing the desulfurized (I) and continuously/quasi-continuously leading (II) into a second zone, aerating with oxygen-containing gas to oxidize (A) with the dissolved oxygen to water and elementary sulfur. Method for desulfurization of sewer gas (I) by anaerobic processing of sludge comprises leading (I) in a first closed zone having an aqueous washing liquid (II), where hydrogen sulfide (A) present in (I) is dissolved to a large extent in (II), obtaining and reusing the desulfurized (I) and continuously or quasi-continuously leading (II) (enriched with (A)) from the first zone into a second zone, aerating with oxygen-containing gas to oxidize (A), dissolved in (II), with the dissolved oxygen to water and elementary sulfur and continuously or quasi-continuously removing a quantity of finely dispersed elementary sulfur enriched (II) and partially recycling into the first zone or completely withdrawing directly. An independent claim is also included for a device, for carrying the above method, comprising a putrid plant (4) with a delivery pipe for sulfur containing sewer gas (5) into an agitated container for the first zone (1), at least one feeding line to a further agitated container for the second zone (2), a delivery pipe (6) for desulfurized sewer gas, an inlet (7) for the oxygen-containing gas into the second zone, a delivery pipe for the second zone into a storage vessel (3), a delivery pipe (8) from the storage vessel (3) and also from feeding lines (9) or (10) from the putrid plant to the containers of the second or first zone.
