The tensioning and guiding rail of a drive chain of a camshaft of an internal combustion engine has a guide element upon which are guided the bushes or rollers of the chain. The guide element is an elongated tensioning rail (8) installed on the guide rail (7) and square-shaped in cross section. The tensioning rail has a guide face (10) in contact with the bushes or rollers of the chain, and the guide face extends at right angles to the side faces (14) of the tensioning rail. The guide face has a lubricant groove (11) along its whole longitudinal extent.
