The device has a thrust unit (10) loaded through a spring in the direction of a toothed rack and relocatably guided in a housing. The thrust unit is formed as a sintered part and has slots (19) at its peripheral surface (18). The area of the peripheral surface is increased opposite the slots. A contact of the thrust unit is produced with the housing, where the thrust unit is filled with lubricant. An independent claim is also included for a rack and pinion steering with a device for pressing a toothed rack on a pinion.
