The electrical cam shaft adjuster has a servo drive (10) whose rotor (11) forms a damping mass of the cam shaft (17) in the emergency position. The spring element (18) for positioning the cam shaft and input shaft (14) of the adjusting gear (13) in the emergency position with a failure of the servo drive connects the input shaft and output shaft (16) of the adjusting gear. The spring element is a torsion spring.
