Method for communicating via varying wired and wireless communication media in which wireless (e.g. MTS, GSM, GPRS, WLAN, WiMAX) and wired (e.g. PSTN, ISDN, DSL, IP) communication connections in the outdoor area are provided by various outdoor providers and wherein these are linked to indoor connections using a universal adaptive interface unit. An independent claim is made for a universal adaptive interface unit that creates a connection between wireless (e.g. WLAN, DECT, Bluetooth etc.) and wired (e.g. analogue telephone, digital telephone, fax, answer machines, computers) communication connections for the units of a user in the indoor area. Additionally on-the-fly encryption and or data compression methods improve security and or improve compressed data communication.
