The ignition process is for internal combustion engines, whereby the operating of the ignition switch (S1) takes place in dependence upon the state of the engine for which a preferably programmable and/or micro-electronic control unit (MC) is used. By operating a stop switch (STOP) the activation of the ignition is prevented. By the evaluating of signals concerning the state of the engine, corresponding information data inferred about the state of the stop switch is generated and depending upon this the operating of the ignition switch is blocked or permitted. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a magneto module for carrying out the proposed ignition process; and (B) a system for the carrying out of the proposed ignition process.
