The method involves calculating an arithmetic shift (sv) in a firmware-evaluation block (50) in such a manner that p sv is an approximate value for K and shifting a value during multiplication and/or division operation, where p is a base and K represents discrete time. A correction factor (Kf) is calculated within the firmware-evaluation block of an electronic circuit. The shifted value is multiplied with the correction factor. An independent claim is also included for an electronic circuit for executing a multiplication or division operation.
