The doffer beam serves a bank of spools. Immediately after spool (2) release, the doffer beam (4) is raised to such a height that the clearance between each spool grip (5) and the tip (3) of each spindle (1) exceeds the spool length. Before raising, the beam is lowered until the tip of the spindle slightly enters the spool. After raising, the doffer beam is lowered sufficiently, that having overcome frictional resistance, the spool is seated into its operating position on the spindle.
