The coupler has a cylinder and a piston that axially moves in the cylinder. A coupler gap is provided between the cylinder and the piston. A compensation area (29) filled with liquid is connected with the gap by a connection channel (33). A pressure retaining unit (36) is provided in the area or in the channel. The retaining unit designed elastically provides restoring force on the fluids of the area and the connection channel.
