The device has an electrically conductive stud (12) for contacting of an electrical connector, and an electrically conductive support base (11) for supporting the stud. The support base is welded with a workpiece e.g. body part (2) of motor vehicle, when the device is in a mounting state. A number of welding projections (13) are arranged at a distance from each other and at a top surface (16) of the support base. An independent claim is also included for a method of establishing a welded connection between the contact device and a workpiece.
