Exhaust gas monitoring device (A) for vehicles fitted with external combustion engines. Exhaust gas monitoring device (A) for vehicles fitted with external combustion engines comprises a sensor housing (3) having a pointed end cap (4); a connecting region (6), connected to (4), for fixing the sensor (1) in the exhaust gas line (2) of the engine, and (connected to (6)), a region (7) for receiving a sensor support (8); and (b) a gas-sensing sensor element (9) arranged on (8). The new feature is that (9) is positioned in the axial direction with respect to the point (5) of (4) such that it is located within regions (6) or (7). An independent claim is also included for a similar device (A1) in which (4) extends at least partly inside (2) and then (9) (not necessarily on a support) is (a) located in a part of (3) diverted from (2) or (b) located outside the flow volume enclosed by (2).
