The six speed powertrain includes three gearsets (PG1,PG2,PG3) each having a sun gear, a ring gear, and a carrier. The ring gear (R2) of the second gearset is variably connected to a transmission case (300) via a third brake (B3) and is subject to a stopping operation by the third brake. The sun gears (S1,S2) of the first and second gearsets are variably connected to transmission case via a second brake (B2). The carrier (PC1) of the first gearset is variably connected to an input shaft (100) via a second clutch (C2), and to the transmission case via a first brake (B1).
