Water-absorbing composition (I) (with a water content of up to 10 wt.%) comprises at least a water-absorbing polymer (containing at least a polymerized water-soluble ethylenic unsaturated monomer and at least a polymerized cross linker) and at least one additive, which prevents a visible discoloration during the direct contact of the swollen (I) with an untreated, bright copper surface at 23[deg]C for at least 14 days. An independent claim is also included for sheathed cable comprising at least a copper conductor, at least a non-corrosive (I) and at least one outer sheath.
