The drive has a catch nut (14) with an electrically conductive wear test unit brought in mutual contact with a nut of a threaded spindle, and having an electrical insulation layer on its surface. The layer is ablated, so that an electrically conductive contact is made between the unit and spindle, when a ball rotation gear does not rotate stably above a preset minimum. The unit and spindle have test equipment to measure the contact. An independent claim is also included for an X-ray device with a spindle drive.
