A paper mill has a paper web winding assembly that takes up the paper as a roll on a spool supported by a guide head (5) each side. The expanding roll is supported on each side by drums (2, 3). The bearings are supported by jacks rising or falling on guides (7). The spool size is selected in response to a measurement taken by bearing weight sensors and determine the web diameter.
