A bracket for rapid and secure fitting of battens onto rafters has a central section (5) shaped to fit over the battens and is secured to the rafters via side tags (6). The top of the bracket and the side tags are provided with nail holes (8). Alternately the central section and the tags can be provided with attached nail profiles e.g. via stamping and enabling the tiler to secure the battens simply by hammering the brackets into place.
