The set comprises an air separator (9) and an expansion unit (36). Each has a container body (10, 37) enclosing a chamber (47, 41) which holds blood. Both separator and expansion unit have couplings (16, 40) allowing them to be connected together, in order to enlarge the volume of the air separator chamber (47). The connection (16) is screwed or push-fit. The air separator body includes a connection for pressure measurement (26).
