The method involves converting an optical data signal (DSO) into an electrical data signal by a photo diode. The electrical signal is then fed into a sampling circuit (AS) provided with an adjustable sampling threshold. Received output of the optical data signal is measured by a measuring and controlling unit (MSE1). The sampling threshold is adjusted as a function of the received output corresponding to a preset logarithmic function. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for regeneration of optical data signal.
