The carrier has a card body with an aerial coil, and a chip module (3) partially embedded in the body, where the coil is attached to contact areas of the body. The module has an integrated circuit (4) that is embedded into a grouting body (13). The body (13) has two channels (14) that extend upto two contacts (15) of the circuit and is inserted in a conducting adhesive subsequent to the formation of an electrical conductive connection. An independent claim is also included for a method of manufacturing a portable data carrier.
