The shut-off device has a housing (1) with inlet and outlet pipes and containing a ball (2) which has a bore (2.2) for passing through the medium flowing through the pipeline. A ring seat (3) is provided in each end of the through bore of the ball coaxial with same and supports a sealing ring (4) which can be pressed against the peripheral face of the ball. Each ring seat forms with the housing a sealing chamber (6) for receiving a profiled ring (5) which has an inner groove opening to the ball and an outer groove on the opposite side of same. The profiled ring can be made of polyurethane or other plastics.
