The system has a vehicle-sided transmission device (2) for sending coded transmission signals with respect to a motor vehicle (1). A receiver comprising an electronic key (4) is provided for receiving and decoding the signals. An evaluation device evaluates determined information about the orientation of the key and the vehicle, and provides direction information about a current position of the key for a current position of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a method for localization of a motor vehicle.
