Machine for coating a moving web (12) of material, especially fibrous material such as paper or cardboard, comprises an applicator (11) for applying a liquid or semisolid medium, e.g. paint, in the form of a falling curtain (14) onto a substrate (16), which is either the web itself or a transfer medium, e.g. a roller, that then applies the medium to the web, and a projector (30) for projecting visible information onto the curtain. Independent claims are also included for: (1) refitting a machine for coating a moving web of material, comprising an applicator for applying a liquid or semisolid medium in the form of a falling curtain onto a substrate, which is either the web itself or a transfer medium that then applies the medium to the web, by incorporating a projector as above; (2) displaying visual information in connection with a coating machine as above by projecting the information onto the curtain.
