The device has a portable scanner (4) to read a barcode, and a data memory (10) to store the read barcode. A comparison unit (11) stays in data communication with the scanner, a model database and the memory in such a manner that the unit (11) carries out automatic comparison between the barcode and the database while reading the barcode, and effects storage of the barcode in the memory, only with a positive comparison result.
