The method involves detecting measured values e.g. engine rotational speed value, and comparing the measured values with preset maximum and minimum values. The measured values are stored, when the measured values lie outside a range between the maximum and minimum values. An auxillary measured value and a detection time are detected and stored with the measured values, when the measured values lie outside the range. An independent claim is also included for a recording device comprising a sensor device.
