The device has a light emitting diode and a cooling unit (1) e.g. Peltier unit, for cooling the light emitting diode. The cooling unit is provided with connectors (13, 14) or heat pipe unit for a liquid coolant e.g. water, to flow through the cooling unit. A support plate is provided along with a support body in which the light emitting diode is coupled, and conductors are provided for supplying power to the diode. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle headlamp with a lighting device.
