Production of tubes comprises providing sheet metal plates (2) with contact bumps (9) suitable for a resistance welding process before deformation along longitudinal sides (7, 8) to be joined together. The upper tool (6) used for the deformation has electrically insulated electrode strips (11, 12) in the region of the longitudinal sides via which an electrical current is passed into the longitudinal sides while maintaining a pressing force of the upper tool and a lower tool. The contact bumps are welded to the longitudinal sides by the pressing pressure and the welding heat produced. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing tubes.
