The retainer has a set of horizontal or vertical retaining units (1, 15) that are displaced from each other in a bricked wall (5). An attachment plate (2) is provided with fastening units for a lining and/or a assembly rail. A bar extends from the attachment plate and is fastened in a gap of the bricked wall. The bar is fixed by utilizing an adhesive and depth of the bar is adapted to thickness of the wall. An independent claim is also included for a chimney with a retainer.
