Preparation of alpha-phenoxy-omega-hydroxy-polyalkylenglycol compounds (I) comprises adding a basic catalyst to a phenoxy alcohol compound (a); removing water from the mixture and alkoxylating the mixture with an alkyleneoxide compound (b). Preparation of alpha-phenoxy-omega-hydroxy-polyalkylenglycol compounds of formula (I) comprises adding a basic catalyst to a phenoxy alcohol compound of formula (a); removing water from the mixture and alkoxylating the mixture with an alkyleneoxide compound of formula (b). R : H, CH3 or 2-4C alkyl; k : 1-3; and n : 10-500.
