A distance measuring device for measuring a distance of a vehicle to an obstacle and a method for functional testing of a distance measurement are proposed. Two measuring systems are provided for this, each working with different measuring methods. A safe function of the second measuring system is when the second measuring system detects an obstacle that has already been detected by the first measuring system.
