The output voltages (uc1,uc2) of a matrix static frequency changer (MATRIX) are output orthogonal relative to the axes of a coordinate system. Sequential switching from output voltage transfer space pointers of the static frequency changer produces input voltages (um1-um3) that switch ON semiconductor switching components (S11,S12,S21,S22,S31,S32). The switching duration of each transfer space pointer is multiplied with a pulse period, Tc, within which relative switching ON lasts.
