Measurement device (20) for bore hole physical measurements, has a measurement probe (31) for measuring backscattered radiation, e.g. gamma radiation, a base structure (22, 23, 25) that moves axially, but non-rotationally up and down the bore hole and a second rotating structure (24, 30) that is attached to the base structure so that it is moved up and down the bore hole with it. The measurement probe is mounted in the second structure. An independent claim is made for a method for making geophysical measurements in a bore hole.
