A flat support element (6) of a laterally open profile defines downward bends (18,20,22) at the edges and a supporting surface (14) oriented in a direction away from the noise or sound source. A flexible noise control element (4) of e.g. mineral wool, foam, is retained with the supporting surface and the bends. The support element is preferably formed of glass fiber reinforced plastics.
