The tensioning element (1) for the clamping of workpieces on machine tables of milling machines and suchlike has a rectangular parallelepiped shape which in its upper narrow side has a T-shaped slot which is open at the top, and in its broad side, in the longitudinal direction of the broad side, has spaced apart recesses (3) extending towards the other broad side and which have a passages (4) extending to the lower narrow side. Recesses (5) at the ends of the broad side have a passage extending towards the adjacent end face (6).
