The cylinder has a cylinder wall (38) surrounding an interior of a cylinder, and an overflow channel (11) formed in the wall for connecting a crankcase of an engine with a combustion chamber. The channel disembogues with a combustion chamber in the cylinder interior. The channel includes a flow guiding rib (14) at the height of an overflow window, where the rib (14) possesses a distance to the window. The rib (14) is oriented in a direction of a longitudinal axis (17) of the cylinder. The rib is integrally cast on the cylinder.
