In a process to form biological micro-particles or pharmacy active ingredients, a liquid mixture starting ingredient (1) is shock frozen in a chamber (3) into spherical particles (2) and is glazed. The micro-particles are then dried at not higher than the glazing transition temperature in a fluidized bed drying chamber (13) process, removing solution or dispersion agents. The drying process then continues at a higher temperature resulting in a generally spherical particulate product with an amorphous inner structure. The temperature maintained on the drying chamber walls is no higher than that required to dry and fluidize the incoming process gas (18). Also claimed is a suitable freezing chamber.
