The method involves assigning a possible alternative spelling of a word that is to be checked as search word to a search engine. A number of hits is determined and saved for each entered search word. The acquired number of hits for the possible spelling of the word is compared with one another after assigning the spelling to the engine. The searching of the word that leads to more hits is selected as a correct search. An independent claim is also included for a computer program for processing a method for spell checking of a word on a computer.
