The connecting system for forming butt joints in I-section girders (1) comprises wedges (9) which are attached to the upper and lower sides of each girder at the ends to be joined. A tubular sleeve (12) with a recess of corresponding shape is fitted over the wedges and bolts are inserted into this to hold the joint together.
