The method is for the releasing of a starter of a vehicle, whereby by means of a clutch control unit a check of the transmission path of a clutch operation is carried out before the release. The check is made before the switching on of the ignition, and the starter is released if the check is successful. During the check, at least one reference point of the distance of the clutch operation is referenced if the clutch pedal is operated. An independent claim is included for a device for the releasing of a starter of a vehicle in which a control unit is activated before the switching on of the ignition so that the release of the starter is carried out upon a successful check being made.
