The controller has a manifold (24) with an inlet port for receiving distillation vapor, and an intake port for receiving dilution gas. A chamber mixes the vapor and the gas, and an outlet port discharges the mixed vapor and gas from the manifold. A vacuum pressure line connects a vacuum pump (14) to the manifold, where the pump is run at full speed all the time. An air bleed valve (18) controls admittance of the gas to the intake port, where dry gas e.g. air, is bled into the vacuum stream in connection with maintaining the required vacuum pressure in a rotary evaporator system.
