An improved design of bumper system for a vehicle has a lightweight hollow structure comprising front and rear walls linked by upper and lower horizontal walls and with hollow profile supports with a sliding fit into the ends of the longditudinal frame members of the chassis. The bumper and mounting are designed to give maximum impact absorbtion with a lightweight structure and with minimum impact transfer to the chassis. The bumper ends of the supports are shaped to connect to the bumper either as angled sections or secured onto the top and bottom sides of the bumper.
