A rolling bearing sub-assembly (3) has bearing units (3A-3C) of the same type, but with different bearing specifications, opposite each other, or the bearing units of a different type are opposite each other. The rolling bearing units in a group of smaller numbers have an axial rigidity which is greater than the axial rigidity of the rolling bearing units in a group of larger numbers. All the rolling bearing units are angular contact ball bearings. An independent claim is included for an angular contact ball with four bearing units.
