The exchanger has channels (2, 3, 4) arranged on sides of joined contact surface units (1) for directing heat transfer medium. The channels are united in a compact unit, and include a retainer that is designed with a round cross section. The units are made up of aluminum, and the channels are made up of different materials. Two units are joined together by interconnection of the channels to a battery type compact unit.
