A continually-operated industrial mechanical handling assembly has a conveyer system for different types of bulk solid object and a camera directed at the passing objects. The camera is linked to a computer and recognises and distinguishes between the different types of object and is coupled to a pick-up system. The camera distinguishes between the bulk solid objects on the conveyer as they pass with no relative motion between the bulk solids. The pick-up system subsequently releases the bulk solid objects into sorted or classified groups.
