The poi comprises a holder such as finger loops(1), a connector (3) and one or more burner elements (5) which can absorb a maximum amount of flammable liquid but which themselves are not flammable. The burner elements are made of an absorbent aramide fiber or carbon fibers or a mixture of fibers which can have one or more fine metal wires. The absorbent fibers are rolled up in a strip and wrapped round a steel cable.
