The controlling and damping mechanism for split and unsplit automatically foldable rear seat backs in motor vehicles has a bearing (4) in the pivot (2) on both sides on the seat back frame and a damping mechanism (3) installed in such a way that a fixed camplate with two or more cams is pressed by springs (15) against a damping ring fastened on a disc (5) flanged on the seat back frame.
