The device for the conveying of workpieces on workpiece carriers (10) has a drive shaft (6) upon which a drive disc (7) is co-axially installed. The drive shaft of the drive disc has a cam plate and a ratchet carrier with a ratchet arm. The ratchet arm has a mechanical control element tracing the cam plate. The ratchet head in dependence upon the control curve of the cam plate is brought into engagement with a mechanical stop on the workpiece carrier. The mechanical control element is a pick-up pin, a pick-up roller, or something similar.
