The device has two clamping jaws (1) adjustable relative to one another and between which a work piece is fixed. The clamping jaws consist of a set of clamping units which are fastened to a clamping unit support (4). The clamping units have an individual jaw, which is adjustable about a defined range against a force of a spring arrangement or a hydraulic or pneumatic piston while clamping the work piece.
