Data carrier (SC) which is setup to be used as a terminal has a first input output line (IO1) for communication with another terminal (TA) and a second input output line (IO2) for transmitting the signal that is present on the first input output line. In a first operating mode of the data carrier, the overriding signal triggers an interrupt in the data carrier, while in a second operating mode, the second IO line checks for the presence of the overriding signal.
